Working in 20 countries across Africa, Children in Christ (CIC) empowers children in servant Christ-like leadership to impact families, villages, and nations for Christ. Local churches are inspired to go outside their church walls into unreached people group villages and start children’s clubs that reach and disciple children on a weekly basis. Last year, over 78,527 received Christ through CIC Clubs—not only children, but also many of their friends, relatives, and neighbors received Christ as a result of their testimony and prayers.

We believe it is important to develop a generation of emerging leaders among youth and young adults, thus, we continue to focus on opportunities for leadership development with young people who have proven to be of high character, commitment, and calling within our 20+ countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. For this trip, we want to empower a Youth Leader / Young Adult Leader to co-travel with a senior CIC adult leader to Ghana, where they will equip and empower future generations of CIC leaders in Ghana.

We want to connect Youth and/or Young Adult Leaders with our older key African leaders, so they can travel together to various countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. This will be an opportunity for CIC Ghana to learn about youth leader development from CIC Liberia, which has excelled in this area. In this project, a Liberian CIC Young Adult Leader will get exposure to field training and coaching in Ghana. They will also be a role model to their peers in Ghana while the Young Adult Leader increases their leadership skills.

These co-travels will involve:

  • Meetings and trainings with the country team (team assessment, feedback, coaching)
  • Country Ministry Evaluation for both the key team and field (ministry quality/impact evaluations)
  • Field Visits and Coaching

Grace is being introduced to a group of CIC children during a field Club visit in South Sudan.

CIC Young Adult Leader, Grace from Kenya, teaches “Who are Children in Christ” to a group of Youth Leaders in South Sudan May 2021

“Who Are Children in Christ” is an action saying that the children enjoy at the beginning of a CIC Club gathering. It highlights some of the core values of our ministry.

“Who Are Children in Christ” goes like this:

We know that God made us & we are precious in His sight
We receive God’s love & forgiveness through Jesus His Son
We listen to His Word & follow His ways
We pray and see His love & power at work
We are empowered to go & tell others about His love

In the video above, Grace and other Young Adult Leaders are demonstrating the CIC credo to the South Sudan Capacity Building participants before teaching them each step in more detail.

Young Adult Leaders, Grace (left, in gray cardigan) and Peter (left, in red jacket) train Club Mentors and Youth Leaders in South Sudan on how to “dig deeper” (imagine using a shovel) during the Sweet Discussion portion of a Club meeting by using the six questions that are part of CIC’s Living Active Method (LAM).

Grace’s Story

Grace Ambira is a 19-year-old university student in Kenya. She joined CIC two years ago after participating in a CIC training, which her local indigenous church told her about. Today, Grace is a Young Adult Leader, which means she helps to lead CIC Club(s) with the Club Mentor, who is an adult. Recently Grace was invited by CIC to co-travel with Peter, another Young Adult Leader from Kenya, and Dennis, CIC’s East Africa Regional Team Leader (an adult), to South Sudan and Uganda for field training and equipping. Below is Grace’s testimony:

“It has been quite a great event meeting new people from a new place and interacting with them was very encouraging. I learned from a few of them and had the chance to know how field work is done in CIC, and how to go about coaching other youth. How I love that most of the youth in South Sudan have made quite a step by choosing to serve the Lord with great zeal and have given themselves to the ministry of children! It has been a great exposure working with the South Sudan team and I am personally grateful.”
