Alliance for Children Everywhere (ACE) demonstrates the love of Jesus Christ by bringing orphaned and vulnerable children into secure families, schools, and communities.

In the heart of the Kanyama Compound in Lusaka, Zambia, the Helen DeVos Christian Secondary school (HDCS) educates almost 400 young adults who otherwise would not be in school. Through this amazing school, students not only gain a quality Christian education, but also support from caring teachers, direction for next steps in their lives, and  daily food that sustains them in their education. Currently, the computer lab on the HDCS campus needs new updated desktop computers and monitors.

Understanding and having access to computers in education is vital in today’s climate. The lab currently has 5 computers which is not sufficient for 400 students to access. Through this grant, we are hoping to purchase 7 new desktop computers and monitors which would greatly enhance HDCS’s educational experience, setting them on a path to future success.

Story

Wisdom Mukusuma is an 8th grader who came to HDCS in 7th grade from one of the ACE FaithWorks community primary schools. Both of Wisdom’s parents passed away years ago and he was living with his grandmother and older brother. His grandmother sells roasted peanuts by the side of the road and his brother supplemented the family’s income with odd jobs. Unfortunately, Wisdom’s brother died from COVID-19 last year which was emotionally and financially hard for the family.

Thankfully, education at HDCS is supplemented so it’s not necessary for students to pay for school fees, books, or uniforms. Students also receive a hot lunch each day which for many is the main meal of the day. Wisdom does incredibly well in school, despite the hardships in his life. His goal is to graduate from high school and attend university. When he succeeds, he will be the first in his family to graduate from primary school.
